SETH

Seth

Seth was a poor and orphaned boy that spent his early years within a small and humble village.

In an invasion led by the Venarax, this village was ransaked and pillaged. Many were killed in the attack, but Seth was spared.

Solely saved because he was trying to defend himself with novice Rage magic, Seth was taken in by the Venarax to be used as a potential weapon in their ongoing wars.

A Venarax general was tasked with watching over Seth. He was given the bare minimum necessities, and was treated more like a prisoner than a soldier.

When Seth disobeyed, he was punished. Even so, the general that took him in would always show pity and some level of kindness. It was a small beacon of hope in Seth’s dark life.

And then, one day, a captain came to Seth. He informed Seth that the general died in combat. This struck Seth hard, and he felt great sorrow at the loss.

The captain, now tasked with managing Seth and his actions, was much more harsh on Seth. If he wouldn’t comply, he would be beaten. And if he resisted, he would be executed.

Seth became like a slave to this captain, forced to follow his training. When he was brought into a raid with the captain, he saw them ready to execute innocent people.

And innocent children…

Hurling fire into the path of the captain, Seth fought back, giving the children time to escape. Enraged, the captain struck the left side of Seth’s face and beat him severely.

Later that day, Seth was taken and whipped for not complying. Left within an inch of his life, the captain had Seth held prisoner as nurses worked hard to patch his injuries.

The captain made an example out of Seth, mocking him in front of a crowd of new recruits. Seth's anger grew, but his body was too weak to manifest flames in its weakened state.

To make matters worse, the chains he was forced to wear held golden gems of Order magic. These gems siphoned what little magical strength he had left, stunting him completely.

Days turned to weeks, and weeks into months.

And then, the angels struck.

With their thunderous attacks, the angels struck down many of the vile Venarax. As Seth watched, a sorrowful peace spread throughout his body, and he waited for his end.

Instead, he heard a voice.

Soft and kind, it told him to go. He was free now.
Seth saw the gems of his chains glow, and he lifted his hands.

The gems cracked and their glowing faded. Confused, but willing to fight for his freedom, Seth summoned his flames and broke the chains apart.

Melting the lock, Seth threw open the cellar door and made his escape. As he ran through the battlefield he saw men and angels in battle, killing each other.

His heart raced and his body ached severely with sharp pinging pains. He struggled to keep moving, and he collapsed before fainting.

All was black, and then the voice returned to him.

As he opened his eyes, he saw a blurry scarlet light. He reached his hand out toward it, and he suddenly felt healed of all of his pain. He saw his scarred arm now healed of its cuts.

He struggled to see more, and as he looked up he finally saw the source of the light.

A beautiful angel made of fire flew over him. She called herself Kisara. Seth stood and thanked the angel, but Kisara told him that there was more work to be done.

If Seth wanted to earn his freedom, Seth had to fight.

Seth sprinted through the battlefield, striking those who had abused him with his ravenous flames. He felt exhilarated, but then he heard Kisara scream.

The stronger of the Venarax warriors managed to kill some of the angels, and they had just hit Kisara. Racing toward her, Seth desperately tried to save her, but he was struck.

Turning to see what hit him, he quickly dodged a fatal strike from none other that the cruel captain that had tortured him. He then heard the angel’s voice again.

“Forget about me and save yourself.”

…He couldn’t.

He went blow for blow with the captain, countering each other’s flames and striking each other with ferocious punches. He told Kisara that he could not — and would not — leave her.

Kisara pleaded with Seth, her voice echoing in his mind, but he told her that there had to be another way. There had to be.

Crying out, Kisara tells Seth that there is only one way, but that it would forever change Seth’s life. He throws another punch. It connects. Seth asks her the question.

“What’s the cost?”

Kisara tells him that an Angel’s soul and a mortal’s vessel can merge. However, once this happens they can never be separated.

Another punch. Seth agrees, but Kisara tells him that she can’t. He asks why not, and she tells him that once bonded, the mortal will never age.

The soul of the angel functionally keeps the living host immortal.

Seth scoffs and dodges a strike. He asks Kisara why all of the angels just don’t do that with the humans fighting and end it already.

Kisara dodges strikes of her own, and as she fights back she tells Seth that the merge can only be done when both subjects are willing to merge.

Seth kicks the captain’s side and pushes him back, then picks himself up.

“Okay. I’ll do it.”

Seth tells Kisara the truth. Everyone that he would have ever loved is dead and gone.

Kisara mourns for Seth, but as her body is impaled by the blades of the Venarax, she agrees.

A flash of light bursts from Seth’s body, and Kisara’s scarlet spirit appears behind him. Holding onto his shoulder, Kisara sends her soul into his body, and Seth’s eyes glow bright.

Translucent, shining wings of pure flame emerge from Seth’s back, and in an instant of built up passion, aggression, and rage Seth forces all of the flames he can out in a massive burst.

The wall of fire hits the captain and incinerates him instantly.

The warriors standing over the lifeless body of Kisara that she left behind are struck as well, and all of them are vaporized.

Seeing the unparalleled strength of Seth and Kisara merged as one, the remaining Venarax retreated. Close behind them, the armies of angels follow, ready to snuff out their flames.

Some of the angels remain, each of them now fixing their gaze on Seth…
